What QC Photos Show
QC photos are the quality control images sent before your item is shipped. Knowing how to read them is essential for making good buying decisions. The GTBuy spreadsheet links directly to QC albums for most items, so you can see what to expect before you order.
A standard QC set includes front, back, and side views. Close-ups of logos, stitching, and hardware. Insole and interior tags. Packaging and extras. These photos are your only chance to evaluate the item before it ships.
How to Inspect QC Photos
Use this three-step process every time you review QC photos.
Compare Against Retail
Use the reverse image search feature to find retail photos. Compare the rep against retail at the same angle. Focus on the details listed in the category checklist.
Check the Category Checklist
Each category page on this site has a QC checklist. Use it as a reference when reviewing photos. Shoes check toe box shape. Hoodies check fabric weight. T-shirts check print alignment.
Look for the Right Flaws
Not all flaws are equal. Some flaws are invisible on foot or on body. Others are instant callouts. Learn to distinguish between them using the guide below.
What to GL (Green Light)
These flaws are acceptable and should not stop you from approving the item.
- Minor logo placement variance within 2mm. Most callouts are only visible under magnification.
- Slight thread color variation. Retail items also have minor variations between production runs.
- Minor packaging damage. The box is not the item. As long as the item itself is good, the box does not matter.
- Factory smell. Most reps have a slight smell when new. This fades after airing out for a few hours.
- Glue residue on the sole. This is common on budget tiers and usually wears off after a few steps.
What to RL (Red Light)
These flaws are significant enough to request a replacement or refund.
- Major shape distortion. If the shoe silhouette is wrong, the item is fundamentally flawed.
- Wrong color or material. If the item is supposed to be suede and arrives in nubuck, this is a material error.
- Crooked logos or text. Branding that is visibly off-center is an immediate callout.
- Missing major details. If a key design element is absent, the item is not the correct version.
- Size mismatch. If the insole measurement does not match the size chart, the item is the wrong size.
Using the Community for Second Opinions
The GTBuy community is a valuable resource for QC review. Post your QC photos in the community for second opinions. The spreadsheet has links to QC albums for recent batches. Compare your QC against the same batch from other buyers to confirm consistency.
Before posting in the community, save retail photos for the same item. This makes it easier for others to compare and give you accurate feedback.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many QC photos should I expect?
A standard QC set includes 5-8 photos: front, back, sides, close-ups of logos, and interior tags. Some sellers provide more for high-tier items.
What if I RL but the second pair is worse?
You can RL again. Sellers typically allow multiple RLs within reason. If the batch itself is declining, consider switching to a different batch or seller.
How long does QC take after ordering?
QC photos are typically available within 2-5 days after placing the order. During high-volume periods, it may take slightly longer.
